To prevent any further issues, it was automatically removed from the RAID array, and the server continued to run from the single remaining hard drive. Having liaised with Dell, and upon completion of a number of tests & checks, we can find no issue with the drive and have therefore re-added it back into the RAID array, restoring the data from the working drive, returning the server back to it's normal working (mirrored) configuration. Having liaised with Dell, we are being sent a new hard drive which will arrive tomorrow (Friday) morning, ready for us to fit that evening. We're expecting this to take place between 18:00 and 20:00. In the mean time, the server will continuing to run as normal from the remaining hard drive in the array and as such there is no loss of service due to this fault. The change over of drives will result in a short downtime while we power down the server to make the replacement. However, before this is done, we will perform a complete a full backup of the hard drive as a precaution, which will result in a slight increase in the load on the server during this time, but shouldn't adversely effect the running of the system. Once re-booted, the system will again continue to run as normal from the functioning hard drive while we reconfigure the new hard drive and add it back into the RAID array. Again, there will be a higher-than-normal load on the server while all the data is copied from the functioning drive to the new one. Only while the server is switched off will it not be accessible. During all other times you can access the server although it may be slower than normal. Finally, we once the RAID array is back to it's normal state, we will reboot the server to make sure that there are no further errors. We apologize for any disruption that this may cause, however this replacement is required to return the system back to normal working status. The server is once again running in a full mirrored RAID array. Also, as per our originally announcement, we have performed a reboot to test the system and make sure that the new drive (and the server) were functioning normally. Total downtime was 31 minutes, of which 28 minutes was the installation of the hard-drive in the server. Upgrades to the main trunk lines between Manchester & London should have no effect (any problems will result in backup lines taking over). However, there will be a change of switch within IFL2. Changing switched will result in a brief 30 second to 2 minute loss of connectivity to our servers, but will in no way affect the servers - just their link to the Internet.
